(November 17, 2009) The Buzz Car Insurance today announced the winner of its Best 60 Seconds national competition. Peter Clements, a paramedic from Goulburn NSW, won a new VW Golf, plus 12 months comprehensive car insurance with The Buzz, worth more than $30,000.

The Buzz Best 60 Seconds competition, launched in September 09 by The Buzz, was inspired from incredible life stories of everyday Aussies. People were asked to tell their own best 60 second story in 150 words or in a 60 second video.

Peter’s winning entry told about the life changing moment when he chose the career of a paramedic after saving the life of a mate of his father’s.
More than two thousand Australians told their remarkable real life stories ranging from the miracle of birth to losing a loved one, amazing travel experiences, recovering from a life threatening disease, and some just on the simple joys of life.

The judging panel featured The Buzz CEO Jacki Johnson, O’Brien Glass CEO Peter Lumsdaine, Microsoft Australia Managing Director, Tracey Fellows.

“Choosing one winning entry out of thousands of extraordinary entries about life experiences was hard. In the end we selected a winner whose own best 60 seconds has undoubtedly given others the opportunity to enjoy more of their lives," Ms Johnson said.

Winner Peter Clements said he was “lost for words" when told of his win. His entry, called 60 Seconds shapes a life, was a poem that told of a life-saving incident 15 years ago which led him to become an intensive care paramedic with the NSW Ambulance Service.
"Saving the life of my dad’s friend was a life changing moment for me. It made me want to help others in need and make a difference between life and death," Peter said.

In his career, Peter has served on site in the emergency effort during the Thredbo landslide in 1997 and worked with an international emergency service in the Solomon Islands in 2006.

“People often refer to paramedics as heroes. Before I became one that's what I thought too. Now I know we are just ordinary people doing a job we love.”

"To win this fantastic VW Golf is an overwhelming reward for telling my Best 60 Second story - thanks The Buzz!"

Ms Johnson said the competition had provided The Buzz (part of Insurance Australia Group) with some valuable insight into what’s important for people.

“With these insights, we aim to continue to develop our online insurance offering so that it’s quick and easy for people and so they can get on and enjoy their own life’s special moments,” she said.

60 Seconds shapes a life.
His heart stopped while driving and he crashed into a pole,
Poor diet and no exercise had taken certain toll.
I saw the whole thing happen and raced over to his car,
I pulled him out and laid him flat then started CPR.
His skin was turning purple and I hoped we weren't too late,
I then recognised the dying man - it was my father's mate.
Finally the ambulance came and shocked him back to being,
It all seemed like a nightmare but it's reality I was seeing.
Dad's mate made a recovery and came to shake my hand
I liked the helping feeling and it made my life less bland.
I'm now a paramedic and I help others when in need,
My life shaped in 60 seconds by one simple helpful deed.
